RosettaNet in Aggressive Move to Push OOXML Tech

ROSETTANET is making strong efforts to ensure the OOXML technology is widely adopted in the local small and medium enterprise (SME) community.

Its Malaysian director Foong Heng Huo said RosettaNet has developed the OOXML-based RosettaNet Automated Enablement (RAE) standard, claimed to help SMEs reduce the cost and complexity of automating their business procurement processes.

According to him, SMEs can now tap into global supply chain and trading networks without having to spend on expensive back-end systems.

The consortium's RosettaNet Automated Enablement standard (RAE), which provides for a low-cost business-to-business (B2B) transaction can now be used with OOXML technologies, hence providing the SMEs cheaper access to international supply chain.

"OOXML opens up exciting opportunities for RAE-based solutions such as its support for custom defined schemes which facilitates wider success of e-commerce, while assuring users of long-term preservation of data," said Foong.

Another benefit of OOXML for SMEs is its capability of storing and managing business data in documents resulting in lower cost for implementing business process automation that enhances global competitiveness.

To date, 670 SMEs are using RosettaNet, but Foong foresees the number to reach 1,000 because of the OOXML technology in Office 2007.
