News & Events May 04, 2006 Official opening of RosettaNet Engineering Center’s new office in Penang, Malaysia PENANG, Malaysia, 27 April 2006 – RosettaNet, the global leader in e-business standards announced today official opening of RosettaNet Engineering Center’s new office in Penang, Malaysia. The new office will substantially extend the consortium’s world-class standards development capabilities. The opening ceremony officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon, included executive level representation by RosettaNet, partner and sponsor companies, including Intel, Dell, Inventec Electronics and Priority Cargo. Established in January 2002 to design and develop RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes (PIPs), the Engineering Center was originally housed at the Penang Skills Development Center (PSDC) before moving to an office space hosted by Priority Cargo in February 2004. “We are honored to have hosted the RosettaNet Engineering Center over the past two years, as it is indeed Malaysia’s pride to be chosen as the center of excellence for standards development and technical support” Dato’ Dr Kenny Ong, Group Executive Chairman of MTT-Priority Group of Companies posits. “We commend the RosettaNet Engineering Center for its great work so far and we anticipate that it will continue to play a lead role in the region to further enhance the RosettaNet standards and the RFID solutions, with the aim to enhance e-business practices across countries and all sizes of businesses." PIPs are the core of what RosettaNet standards are constituted from. They are technically specialized system-to-system XML-based dialogs that define business processes between trading partners, creating a common business language. In 2005, the Engineering Team has seen a tremendous growth in work output, developing 40 unique PIPs as compared to 12 in 2004. This demonstrates the capability of local RosettaNet Engineers to support a global technology market. It is due to such a proven track record that, RosettaNet Global continues to shift increasing Engineering responsibilities from its headquarters in Santa Ana, California, USA to Penang. “To date, RosettaNet has received broad industry and governmental support in China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand,” said Paul Tearnen, RosettaNet Vice President for Standards Management. “In expanding the RosettaNet Engineering Center in Penang, we affirm our commitment to this region and to building the highest quality e-business standards for the world’s most demanding supply chains.” The number of Malaysian companies who successfully implemented the RosettaNet standards has increased from 33 in December 2004 to 327 in March 2006. Similarly the number of connections has also evolved from 480 to 7604 over the same period, out of which half are local connections. The adoption of the RosettaNet standards has allowed local companies to conduct business through electronic means with their partners, suppliers and buyers; and enjoy the benefits of reduced inventory costs, time to market and lower transaction costs. It is for these reasons that Intel, a co-founder of the RosettaNet Global consortium has continued to show strong support for the organization. KC Yoon, Managing Director of Intel Technology says “Intel’s investment in RosettaNet has been well rewarded; we have been able to improve our business processes, time to integrate, data quality, lower our overall integration cost, enhanced our through-put time and achieved overall cost competitiveness through the use of RosettaNet.” RosettaNet’s successes in Malaysia can also be attributed to the massive support shown by local companies and solution providers. “Companies like Dell who have increased their RosettaNet connections by over 200% within the past 4 months are a testament this.” HH Foong, Director of RosettaNet Malaysia asserts. “More are beginning to see the value of implementing RosettaNet, for example, TMNet’s RosettaNet based Reseller Commission System (RCS) which was launched last year has managed to reduce the total processing time needed for claims from 21 to 3 days”. He further adds, “Our solution providers have managed to reduce the resources needed to implement RosettaNet, that coupled with the Grant offered by the Malaysian Government to potential implementers have greatly assisted in the proliferation of the standards in the country.” To further assist SMIs in adopting the standards, RosettaNet has invested in technologies that makes RosettaNet implementations simpler and cost efficient. SY Foong, Acting Director of RosettaNet Engineering Center posits that “the Engineering Center has played a major role in the RosettaNet Automated Enablement (RAE) project which was designed to help Small-to-Medium-Sized-Industries (SMIs) to adopt the RosettaNet standards in a cost effective manner.” She further added that “By using this technology, local SMIs from all industries would only require minimal resources and equipment to begin e-Business interactions using RosettaNet standards. This will be a good starting point for these businesses, which can later expand their e-Business infrastructure to cover backend integration for increased efficiency.” Over the years, the industry has also shown support in other forms, including the sponsorship of office equipment and staffing. “These companies include Sony, Priority Cargo, Exel Logistics, Inventec Electronics, Dell, Intel and Microsoft” said Dato’ SH Wong, RosettaNet Malaysia Advisor. “We really appreciate their effort not only in implementing RosettaNet in their companies but also making RosettaNet Malaysia successful.” About RosettaNet RosettaNet is a globally supported standards organization that provides unmatched leadership in promoting collaborative commerce. With over seven years of proven industry application, RosettaNet is used and endorsed by more than 500 companies around the world. The RosettaNet standards have been implemented by companies of all sizes, from small enterprises to huge global conglomerates. RosettaNet members stay active in the standards development process, continually finding new and better ways to achieve a globally networked supply chain. The member voice drives all efforts, ensuring RosettaNet standards have practical and measurable application. RosettaNet Malaysia was founded in 2002 as an affiliate to promote the adoption of the standards in Malaysia. www.rosettanet.org |
