USHIO America Deploys BizTalk Server 2006 Solution from GXS for B2B e-Commerce Enablement

GAITHERSBURG, Md., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- GXS, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that USHIO America, Inc., one of the world's leading lighting technology companies, has deployed the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006-based "Grid Ready" solution from GXS. USHIO has deployed the solution for the purposes of integrating with its back-office warehouse system as well as with customers. To address both priorities, the company sought a single solution that would not only automate transactions to and from its warehouse system, but also would enable the company to conduct RosettaNet-based transactions with customers. The BizTalk solution from GXS enables USHIO to have more direct control and visibility into warehouse operations and to satisfy their customers' e-commerce trading requirements.

Founded in 1967, USHIO America, Inc. specializes in Quartz Halogen and Special Gas Discharge lamp technology. The company manufacturers a broad range of lighting types including Halogen, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Quartz- Infrared Heater, Miniature and Subminiature lamps and many more. USHIO provides theses lighting types to a variety of industries including audio- visual, photographic, theatre, television, semiconductor, medical, dental, ophthalmic, automotive, aviation and more. Before selecting the BizTalk Server solution from GXS, USHIO conducted a comprehensive competitive market assessment to identify the technology that was most flexible and therefore best-suited to fit the company's needs. USHIO will use the BizTalk Server Gateway from GXS to send and receive AS2 documents to and from its warehouse and logistics system with a 15 minute turn-around timeframe. Previously, the company had no means to interact with its warehouse system electronically and relied on manual processes--fax and e-mail--to exchange inventory and order documents. In addition, the company plans to implement the BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet to exchange documents with a major customer.

"In considering our options for enhancing our B2B e-commerce enablement and increasing our integration with our warehouse and logistics system, the BizTalk solution from GXS was the best fit," said John Gornick, director of IT for USHIO America. "This solution is simple to implement, integrates with our existing platforms and gives us the flexibility and functionality to use with a variety of customers. Through GXS, we are able to respond to the e-commerce needs of our customers quickly and proficiently, and are well on our way to reaping the benefits of B2B e-commerce enablement on a broad scale."

In May 2006, GXS announced a global strategic alliance with Microsoft to market innovative solutions to speed and simplify integration between trading partners worldwide. The alliance focuses on enabling B2B integration initiatives across organizations' global supply chains, through a combination of software and services that includes Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, SQL Server 2005, the 2007 Microsoft Office System and GXS Trading Grid(R). Through the relationship, the companies are jointly marketing their leading B2B solutions to help ensure that organizations of all sizes, in any geography, can build real-time, collaborative B2B networks that connect their trading partners across supply chains.

"The value of B2B integration technology is significantly enhanced when it is seamlessly connected to the core processes that drive the business," said Steven Martin, director of product management for the Connected Systems Division at Microsoft Corp. "USHIO's deployment of the BizTalk GridReady solution from GXS is a prime example of advancing business through IT-- increasing productivity and meeting customer needs through connected business processes."

As part of the companies' alliance, Microsoft has named GXS Trading Grid the recommended global B2B network for BizTalk Server 2006. Microsoft recommends the GXS Trading Grid because of its seamless operation with BizTalk Server 2006 and GXS' unique global reach, which spans more than 150,000 trading partners and 40,000 customers, making it an ideal solution for businesses in almost any industry or geography. GXS Trading Grid is a global B2B e-commerce and integration platform that supports the creation and adoption of on-demand supply chain management solutions for companies of any size. As the world's largest electronic business community, GXS Trading Grid enables customers to exchange goods and services, gain visibility into global logistics operations and synchronize product data.

"USHIO's selection of the BizTalk Grid-Ready solution from GXS is indicative of the solution's applicability for nearly any company seeking to become more tightly integrated internally, as well as those seeking greater flexibility to conduct B2B e-commerce with external business partners," said Rory O'Neill, director of global alliances at GXS. "BizTalk Server has wide penetration in companies of nearly every size, type, location and industry. USHIO also can leverage GXS Trading Grid when ready to expand its B2B e- commerce functionality with additional customers and partners around the world."
