Java Developer 
Job Description
This is a Software Development position with the primary role of the implementation of software modules that are compliant with the architecture specified by the Architecture Team
Department
RosettaNet ( Asia ) Engineering
Description
The intended scope of this function is implementation of software modules that will be essential part of GS1/RosettaNet infrastructure. This position reports to the Director, Asia Engineering.
Commitment
This is a Full time position
Essential Functions
- To collaborate with Business Stakeholders and to understand the requirements of the projects that require development services
- To implement, unit test and maintain the software
- To work closely with other members of the Development Team and provide input into software design
- To assist the Implementation Support Team on an on-going basis
- To ensure that deliverables are completed according to schedules
- To follow established RosettaNet Engineering Software Development Guidelines
Required Qualifications:
- Overall programming experience at least 1-3 years
- Expertise in OOAD & OOP
- Current hands-on expertise in Java and Java development tools for at least a year
- Expertise in Relational Database Management Systems (Oracle, PostgreSQL)
- Good verbal and written communication skills (sufficient competence in English is required)
- Good team player, able to work well with widely distributed international teams. Able to work flexible work hours to cater for different time zones supported by the team
- Familiar with Configuration Management Tool (Perforce, Subversion)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge in Extreme Programming
- Expertise in XML technologies including XML Schema
- Familiar with Linux and Sun Solaris environment
- Knowledge in UML, Registries & Repositories is an added advantage
Education
- BA/BS degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field.
Configuration/IT Administrator
This position will give you the opportunity to:
- Freely research and implement any Open Source Tools and Applications to meet the Development and Quality Assurance needs of the Engineering Team
- Interact with User Groups to discuss topics and resolve issues
- Administer all Applications and Servers used in the Engineering Center
- Manage Local and Wide Area Network components
We are seeking potential candidates with the following Qualifications and would be interested to discuss career opportunities at GS1 US ( Penang ) with you:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Candidates without the required paper qualification but have relevant experience may also be considered
- Minimum 5 years in IT System Administration and Network Administration
- Knowledge in operating systems like Windows , Linux and Solaris Setup and Administration
- Knowledge in databases like Oracle and PostgreSQL Setup and Administration
- Knowledge in applications like CruiseControl , Subversion , JMeter and various Java IDEs
- Knowledge in web servers like Tomcat and Apache
- Knowledge in LAN , WLAN , WAN and Printer Administration
- Have a keen interest in exploring new software and technologies and applying them
- Have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and is motivated to do self research
- Able to interpret Technical Specifications with ease
- Self starter and perpetual thinker
- Good Documentation skills
- Good command of English . Other languages will be an added advantage
Senior Java Developer
Job Description
This is a Senior Software Development position with the primary role of leading the implementation of software modules that are compliant with the architecture specified by the Architecture Teams.

Description
The intended scope of this function is implementation of software modules that will be essential part of GS1/RosettaNet infrastructure. This position reports to the Director, Asia Engineering.
Essential Functions
- Implement, unit test and maintain software
- Work closely with other members of the Development Team and provide input into software design
- Assist the Implementation Support Team on an on-going basis
- To understand the requirements of the projects that require development services, prioritize projects, allocate appropriate resources to the projects, provide committed dates and manage project progress to ensure that deliverables are completed according to schedules. To be the key point of contact between the Business stakeholders and Development Team
- To keep track of all Change Requests and ensure that appropriate attention is given to them until they are resolved
- To understand and keep track of all Issues that arise in the course of day-to-day work and follow through until they are resolved. To understand the barriers that are preventing the team from carrying out their responsibilities and execute the necessary steps to remove them. To recognize conflicts within the team as well as with external parties and work towards win-win solutions
- To continuously review Development processes and seek out improvements which will enhance speed of delivery, work towards zero-defect and reduce costs. This includes managing projects to source, create and/or enhance Development tools and practices
- Must have Management and Leadership skills to lead the Java Development Team. Knowledge in Java Development is important to ensure that the team receives necessary guidance and direction for their work
- To ensure that Documentation is maintained and up-to-date
Required Qualifications

- Current hands-on expertise in Java and Java development tools for at least 3 years
- Expertise in Relational Database Management Systems (Oracle, PostgreSQL)

- Ability to work under virtual organization setup with little day-to-day supervision
- Good team player, able to work well with widely distributed international teams. Able to work flexible work hours to cater for different time zones supported
- Familiar with Configuration Management Tool (Perforce, Subversion)
